Jon Stewart Mocks The Trayvon Martin Hoodie Threat

From Denny:  Jon Stewart lampoons hoodie wearing supportive journalists and politicians trying to join the trending and popular national conversation demanding a proper investigation into the tragic death of Trayvon Martin, a young black man deemed suspicious as he walked through a neighborhood wearing a hoodie.  Amazingly, without the public outcry and national pressure, the police had no intention of investigating the crime.

Trayvon's Neighborhood Watch stalker decided the teenager was "suspicious" just because he was wearing a hoodie and walking in his neighborhood.  It turns out that Trayvon was returning home to his parents after visiting the grocery store.  He was minding his own business while carrying a soft drink, a bag of candy and talking on a cell to his girlfriend.

You really do get tired of all this idiotic racial profiling like evidenced by this stalker, an obsessed member of his Neighborhood Watch.  Hell, let's send the entire American public to the CIA school for reading basic body language and micro facial expressions for the utterly clueless.

Then, maybe folks would finally be able to accurately recognize who really is and who totally is not a threat to them.  That type of proper education would go a long way to turning down the national political temperature.

Trayvon's death was as unnecessary as it was tragic.  Plenty of stories have been written about what might have happened when a teenage boy was stalked and chased down by an adult with a gun.  George Zimmerman comes across as a guy who was obsessed with catching someone to answer for the crimes of others and saw his target of opportunity.

Who knows what went through Trayvon's mind when a man suddenly appears running in his direction?  Did he think Zimmerman was a sexual pervert intent upon harming him?  Did he think Zimmerman was just a crazy guy off his meds?  Probably the last thing he would have thought is that a vigilante was after him for walking in the neighborhood.  We will never know.

One thing is for sure; Trayvon's death was not in vain.  It restarted a national conversation about race and racial profiling that had been swept under the rug for years.  It kick-started legislation to restrict neighborhood vigilantes and sure has police wondering about these groups and how quickly things can go bad.

Which brings us to the hoodie attire.  For some reason, too many folks find a hoodie threatening because a lot of young kids wear it, including the criminal elements.  Regular people exercising at gyms and criminals wear hoodies, jeans and various stylish shoes too.  Should we fear jeans and shoes as well?  It's a silly notion.

Jon Stewart also thought it stupid to fear the hoodie.  In these video clips he questions the various politicians jumping onto the hoodie band wagon.  It's a political year.  The wearing of the hoodie has been seen in churches and in Congress to support Trayvon.  Where it looks it's most ridiculous is when journalists don the hoodie for a newscast.
