POW Bowe Bergdahl: 8,000 Afghan-Iraq War Deserters. Why Is America Attacking THIS One?

From Denny:  Maybe the headline should be:  "Do Terrorists Win?  The Perplexing Vicious Bullying of POW Bowe Bergdahl."  For almost two months I've been working to write this post but have found myself shocked, dismayed, downright apoplectic - and practically speechless - at the savage, malicious, downright evil attacks against Bowe Bergdahl.  So much for the loyalty to the American philosophy of "Leave No One Behind."  In this case it should read: "Leave No One Behind Unless It's Convenient To Use Them For Political Advantage [2016 election] And Avoid Prosecution For War Crimes."

Yes, I am still that furious at the attackers of a returning POW who experienced pure Hell for a very long five years.  So, I took a serious time out to watch before commenting to see how things played out since I knew it was the political hacks - and - highly suspect - most likely some very guilty platoon mates from Bergdahl's outfit - who were driving these attacks...

Oh, and let's not forget my fellow media who knew better than to give air time to a grieving mother of a dead soldier who believed the lies told to her about Bergdahl.  That was irresponsible journalism at best.  Shame on the immature news producers going just for visceral reactions instead of considering the consequences of their actions, promoting the cheap news thrills.  And then there were the individual journalists chiming in as judge and jury, deciding it was just trivial what this POW experienced.  Come on, seriously??

Because of the political furor when this POW was traded for five Gitmo prisoners - who spent a decade in our captivity - the Pentagon promised an investigation into whether or not Bergdahl was truly a deserter.  Deserter or not is a moot point after all this time. The man spent five long years locked up in a dark hole, tortured and mentally manipulated daily, suffered social isolation, battled loneliness he is still experiencing, abandoned by his platoon and thought he was forgotten by his country and family.  Apparently, for the vicious crowd, his five years of suffering is simply not enough to satisfy their thirst for revenge of imagined and unproven wrongdoing.  Nothing like kicking a man when he is down.  Not exactly some Americans' finest hour.

But here are the questions no one has dared to ask:  Did Bergdahl's platoon drive him out into enemy territory on purpose?  Did Bowe Bergdahl know of war crime behaviors of some or all of his platoon and they threatened to kill him if he didn't leave to take his chances with the Taliban killing or capturing him?  Did Bergdahl have direct knowledge of his platoon members killing Afghan children or raping Afghan women?  Did Bergdahl just go on a "walk about" to clear his head because he felt caught between his moral compass and loyalty to his platoon?

After five long years suddenly his platoon is accusing Bergdahl of deserting them?  Just maybe it's the other way around as they deserted him five years ago, and, now, today they are attempting to be the first to accuse so no investigator will think to check out their stories, afraid the real truth of ugly war crimes will be discovered and brought to light.

If you are going to accuse, punish and hold Bergdahl up to the light of truth, then also hold his platoon up to the light.  And, while you are at it, how about examining the other 8,000 "deserters" and their platoon members?  You might just uncover a lot more horror than you ever thought possible.  Then you have to ask yourselves yet one more question:  Was all this ugliness really worth it?  Some times, especially after a war,  it's best to lay down the grief, the guilt, the anger once and for all - and, finally, learn to live again.
